Overview

Course Description Whether firearms are present in your home or not, every caregiver has a responsibility to help children understand how to behave safely if they encounter one. Curiosity is natural, and responsible adults should be prepared to guide that curiosity with clear, age-appropriate safety instruction. This course is designed for parents, guardians, and caregivers who want to confidently teach their own children firearm safety. Instead of bringing children into the classroom, this program equips adults with the knowledge, language, and strategies needed to have productive safety conversations at home. Drawing from the USCCA Children’s Firearms & Safety Fundamentals curriculum, the course focuses on practical approaches for teaching safety, reinforcing responsible behavior, and preventing accidents through education and proper storage. Students will leave with a structured framework they can use to introduce firearm safety to children in a way that is calm, responsible, and appropriate for different ages. Topics Covered • Why early firearm safety education matters • Understanding how children perceive risk and curiosity • Age-appropriate ways to teach firearm safety principles • What children should do if they encounter a firearm • Communicating clearly and confidently with kids about safety • Safe storage practices that reduce risk at home • Reinforcing responsibility and respect around firearms • Creating a family firearm safety plan Safety education starts at home. When adults are prepared to teach firearm safety clearly and confidently, children gain the knowledge that helps prevent accidents and promotes responsible behavior. Join the class and learn how to teach your children the habits that keep everyone safe.
